Below are news clippings taken from the Mills newspaper surrounding the implementation of Ethnic Studies at the college. The Black Student Union first published a list of demands in the Mills Stream due to the lack of Black professors on campus. The Black Student Union's demands for representation would eventually lead to the creation of the Ethnic Studies program at Mills.
Below you will find an interactive timeline illustrating the major moments in history that have contributed in the making of Ethnic Studies at Mills as it functions today. In researching how the Mills Ethnic Studies program came to be, we thought it was only appropriate to highlight the history of Mills prior to the implementation of Ethnic Studies program, during the fight for Ethnic Studies, and the 50 years since the program was started. The timeline begins in 1533CE with the first Spanish ships arriving in California and ends in 2019 with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ethnic Studies.
